During these 13 special nights of the year, when the veils are at their thinnest between the material and the spiritual worlds, we arrive at the darkest time of the year.

This portal of time calls us into the dark, warm quiet out of the cold. To go within and be in the warmth of the internal. To connect with the inner flame of spirit and soul, and to hibernate gently with ourselves before the spring energies call us back to the surface and to burst forth with new green life.

Our culture doesn't often support this. The holidays are a time of parties and festivities, shopping and travelling, gatherings — everything but being quiet, connected to Self, and contemplative.

So we choose. We choose to slow down, to pause, to reconnect within ourselves and with the Earth's natural rhythms — to feel her become quiet and dormant for this next quarter of the year. In choosing, we align with the organic time all around us.
